I hope to get two weeks out of this theme because it is one of my favourites. Lots of you bought my SESE Ocean Animals Unit so here’s how I will integrate for the week with all subjects!

Here is a link to my Ocean Animal Science Unit: http://www.muinteoirvalerie.com/shop/science-of-ocean-animals/

English- Report writing- the octopus, the seal , sharks, whales. Comparing and contrasting- molluscs and mammals

Irish- not linking

Maths- under the sea themed maths games on the IWB to tie in with the current chapter in the book.

History- the history of fishing in Ireland (my Dad is a fisherman and his Dad was so I have loads of material to go on here!)

Geography- How weather affects fishing , over fishing

Science- life cycle of the turtle, science experiment based on the octopus and ink (it is in my science unit), reports on various sea creatures which integrates with English.

Music- Under the Sea from ‘The Little Mermaid’

Drama- We will base our drama on ‘There’s a Commotion in the Ocean’

PE- Make sea creature shapes- e.g. jelly fish, octopus. shark, dolphin etc as PE warm up

Art- design a fish- children get templates and design the fish using crepe paper, pipe cleaners, etc/ submarines- I will have four large cardboard cut out submarines- one for each table. Each child at the table gets a circle ( to be the window of the submarine) and in the circle they draw what they imagine they can see from the submarine. There are SO many art ideas on pinterest but these two are plenty for me for now!

Religion- Jonah and the Whale

SPHE- citizenship- looking after our oceans and sea creatures- how pollution hurts sea creatures.
