Gníomhaíochtaí Éisteachtaí Resource for Gaeilge
Hello everyone.
Apologies for the lack of posts this week. I turned up to a school on Monday to sub for the day, only to be asked to do a mini interview for a six week substitute position in the school! It was such a lovely surprise. I have thirteen fourth class boys for the next six weeks. I have been busy all week trying to plan and get resources together. One resource I used every morning this week was ‘Gníomhaíochtaí Éisteachta’ by http://www.prim-ed.com/index.cfm. It’s a brilliant little resource, I am so pleased I stumbled across it. I generally use it after the gailge néamhfhoirmiuil in the mornings. The book is based on the éisteacht strand of the curriculum. Each child gets a picture from the book, e.g. a lion. I usually photocopy these before school. There is a page with the treoracha for the teacher, for example, ‘Cuir dath dearg ar shúile an leoin’. Then there is the ‘dúshlán breise’, e.g. ‘Meas tú cad a d’ith an leon dá dhinnéar? Tarraing pictiúr de ar an talamh in aice an leoin’.
There is huge scope for differentiation. The first instructions, colour the lion yellow etc, should be accessible for nearly all children. The extra activities then make it a little more difficult, and the children really need to listen to catch it! I usually offer a star to whoever listens most carefully. There’s a spooky skeleton lesson for Halloween, and snowmen for Christmas. There’s also a long list of relevant vocabulary at the end of the book , which would be excellent for the senior classes.
Best of all, this resource is only 14.95!
