If you didn’t get accepted to teaching college please don’t worry. The points were so high this year! I know you are probably disappointed now, but there are many ways in to teaching.

I didn’t get into teaching when I did the leaving cert. I only applied to Mary I because I thought Dublin was too far from home. So I got the exact points needed that summer but Mary I changed it to random selection for people who had the exact amount of points and no extra that year. So I missed out!Sure I was disappointed at the time, but I had so much fun doing Arts in NUIG in Galway. I spent the best four years there! I graduated with an English and Law degree and I wouldn’t change it now for the world. I did Hibernia after, and became a qualified teacher two years later. In hindsight, I am so glad that it worked out the way it did. I love having two additional degrees to my teaching one, and they really stood to me in interviews.

So if you are determined enough you will still become a teacher, it will just take a year or two longer. What is for you won’t pass you so please don’t be disappointed or disheartened. Enjoy which ever course you decide to do, and in no time you will be applying for your PME!
