Graduation Ideas

Hello everyone!

Wow, it has been a while since I have logged on to my blog! It is just that time of year I guess! I actually cannot believe we are in to the last week in May. The last couple of months have been an absolute whirlwind, I just don’t know where the time has gone since Easter. We have had our confirmation, our active week, pet week and standardised tests in the last three weeks so it has been hectic! I hope we are all well and enjoying the last few weeks of term anyway!

Graduation:

I have had a few messages asking me about nice ideas for graduation, which has forced me to start thinking about it. I have been in denial, as I really don’t like graduation time, it makes me feel most despondent. Whether they are the toughest or the easiest class you have ever had, it is still hard to say goodbye to them! I think that is especially so when you are not from the area you teach in, so the chances of you EVER seeing them again are slim. When you think of it, we spend every day for a year or two for some of us multigrade teachers, with these children. You’re there for their good news, their bad news, their best and worst days.  So it is a huge deal when they leave primary school, in my opinion! I want to give my current class a good send off, so here are a few ideas I have been toying with.

Usually we have a short mass, and the parents then have tea, coffee and biscuits.

The school usually provides farewell presents for the children, last year it was t-shirts, I think it’ll be similar this year.

Last year I gave cards and a little gift.

A parent read out a poem last year, which was lovely.

The children had made memory books about their time in primary school, and they all wrote compliment cards in each other’s memory books which I read out during the ceremony. They were lovely mementos to bring home.

Last year we showed a photo story of them throughout school. We’ll do the same this year but I will try do a video montage too.

I am going to have a class rep talk about school and the future etc.

Song choice wise, we are changing it all the time, for now I am thinking Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, Time of your Life by Green Day , History by One Direction and World’s Greatest by R Kelly. We better get learning!

Last year we had a school disco after the graduation which raised money for Barnardos, the children had a great time!

Oh and there’s loads of graduation art on pinterest, just have a look at the link to pinterest on my site and you’ll see the links.
