ABA Course with ICEP Europe
ICEP Europe have become my go to course provider since I started working in an ASD class setting. ICEP Europe have been providing online courses to primary teachers for the last 15 years and have served over 20,000 teachers to date. All courses are 100% online and are fully approved by the Department of Education and Skills. The courses are 20 hours in length. They are EPV day approved for the summer, but not for the Spring term. Here is a link to their website if you wish to find out more.
They have so many courses, I wish I could do more of them! They have a suite of courses on Welbeing and Resilience, on ASD, on Positive Behaviour Support, on Teaching and Learning, ICT, and Additional Learning Needs. There’s a lot to choose from!
I completed a course on ABA with ICEP Europe a couple of weeks ago. I know a lot of people have asked about courses for helping teachers who will be new to an ASD class in September. The first one I would recommend doing is the Understanding Autism course which ICEP offers, as it gives an overview of all the main programmes and basically all the stuff you need to know to get you started! The ABA course then is focused only on ABA, and is very dense, in a good way. If you will be using ABA then it is definitely worth doing.
The course consists of the following modules:
Module 1: Overview of Applied Behaviour Analysis
Module 2: Increasing behaviours through Applied Behaviour Analysis
Module 3: Decreasing behaviours through Applied Behaviour Analysis
Module 4: Teaching principles in Applied Behaviour Analysis
Module 5: Graphing, data collection, generalisation and maintenance of behaviour
Each module contains the readings and information in online module form and in a downloadable form. I actually downloaded and printed all the information and have a folder for this course and the Understanding Autism one which I will be able to refer back to in September should I need to.
This course gave me a strong grounding and understanding of ABA, which I needed. I had read about ABA and watched videos online, but it’s not the same. This course broke the intervention down step by step, in a clear explanatory manner , and made a technical intervention easy to understand, and hopefully implement.
Once you have completed all the readings, you must submit a response to the interactive online forum for each module. There is a reflective assignment at the end of between 250-750 words which must be completed, but they are very straight forward. The certifcate gets emailed to you then shortly after!
